The first Middle East Film and Comic Con is set to take place later this month.

The organiser behind this month's first Middle East Film and Comic Convention has announced a strategic partnership with its New York counterpart as part of an effort to strength the region's creative sector.

The deal, which will see the Middle East convention become a sister event to the New York Comic Con, has also been described as an ideal opportunity to spread the culture of entertainment conventions into new markets, while at the same time adding value to what looks set to become the region's largest popular culture festival.

In addition to boosting awareness of the sector, the deal will also see the sharing of resources and expertise, both for this year's inaugural event, as well as those in the coming years.

Speaking about the deal, Lance Fensterman, group vice president for ReedPOP and show director for the New York Comic Con said: "The Middle East Film and Comic Convention is an exciting project in an emerging market that has a lot of potential. The quality and standards being set give us great confidence for its future success.

"Part of our mission at ReedPOP is to spread the currency of cool around the globe with new events, and new relationships," he added. "We see MEFCC as an awesome new community for geeks in a growing market in the world."

Ben Caddy, managing director of company behind the Middle East Film and Comic Con, ExtraCake PR added: "As far as we know, this is a unique arrangement within the comic convention circuit, and this association with one of the highest quality pop culture events in the world is a fantastic boost for us, giving us great confidence that we, and the MEFCC, are heading in the right direction.

The event will play host to a number of big names, including Mark Sheppard (Battlestar Galactica/Firefly/Dr Who), director Ali F Mostafa (City of Life), Walking Dead star Laurie Holden, and Luciana Carro (Battlestar Galatica/Falling Skies).

The event will take place on April 20th and 21st at the Dubai International Marine Club.
