Vizrt, a provider of story production tools for the digital media industry, has appointed Michael Hallen as its new CEO, effective August 1st 2016.

Hallen will be based in Vizrt’s global headquarters in Bergen, Norway. Hallen replaces former Vizrt CEO, Martin Burkhalter, who recently retired after heading the company for six years. Dr. François Laborie, COO, remains as Acting CEO until August 1st 2016.

Hallen was previously CEO at Qmatic Group, a Swedish software and hardware company in the customer experience management.

He has also held the position of CEO at Boss Media, a gaming, entertainment and software company, and IFS, an ERP software firm.

Hallen has also held several non-executive directorships in various tech companies and currently holds two board positions, Fingerprint Cards and Paxport.

Chairman of the Board, Torben Munch, said: "I am very pleased to welcome Michael Hallen on board as our new CEO for Vizrt. Michael is passionate about technology and brings 25 years of experience from global software business. With Michael and the Vizrt team I am convinced that we can continue Vizrt's track record for innovation, leverage our company's leadership in broadcast graphics and broaden our scope into leadership in video creation, storytelling and video distribution on all platforms. I also expect Michael and the Vizrt team to expand our client base to include all media companies who create and distribute digital content in video format."

Hallen said: “I’m looking forward to working together with Vizrt’s world-class team to serve long term customers while capturing the new market opportunities that are being created in this fast changing industry. Joining the Vizrt team brings a fantastic personal opportunity as it involves two of my own favourite interests: leading technology and international news.”
