S&S: Take us through your professional journey so far and what inspired you to be part of the events industry?
I’ve been an electrical engineer for over eight years. I started out in the construction industry and then moved to the events industry in the UAE four years ago. Considering I come from a very technical background and the fact that I love keeping busy, the events industry has proven to be perfectly suited for me.
S&S: Tell us about the services that Solas offers the events industry and how you deliver on this?
Solas is an events production company that offers a wide range of services including lighting, video, audio, truss and rigging, and temporary power solutions. As a company, it’s important for us to always stay ahead of the curve and this we do by investing in new premium products and delivering good quality services. Our aim is to build long-term relationships, so keeping our clients completely satisfied is our top priority. The focus areas for us are exhibitions and corporate events, like conferences, award show gala dinners, product launches and fashion shows among other things. In fact, we’re quite big on corporate events at the moment, and that’s been keeping us quite busy this year.
S&S: What inspired you to start Solas and how have you seen the company evolve in the last year?
Having worked in the events industry in the UAE for over four years, I realised that there was a huge opportunity for me to start my own company focused on audio-visual rentals. Solas became operational in October 2015, and I must say that our first year has been extremely interesting, exciting and busy. I anticipate that business will continue to gather pace in the year ahead.
S&S: In terms of services, video is one area that you are focusing on growing at the moment. Can you tell us about your plans and investments for Solas’ video depart ment?
Yes, expanding the capacity of our video department is the main area of focus this year. We have invested heavily in new P2mm LED panels along with a number of Panasonic projectors. To support these new products, we have also added a number of Dataton Watchout servers and Analog Way seamless switchers. Most importantly, we have invested in the right personnel to achieve the highest level of service for our clients.
S&S: What are your other plans in terms of expansion and investment in new services?
Despite being a fairly new company in the Middle East market, we have seen our inventory grow at a rapid rate. Our current storage and office facilities are quickly becoming inadequate, so we are already looking at larger premises to suit our needs. In terms of investment, we will continue to invest heavily in the best technology, in new key people and will continue training our current staff to ensure our growth as a company.
S&S: What challenges does SOLAS face as a company in this region and where do you see the future of the events industry in the Middle East heading?
Dubai is a mature market and its future is certainly bright and exciting. We know that clients are always looking to collaborate with companies that are innovative, that offer new game-changing products and that ensure quality services. While budgets are reducing, client expectations have remained the same. At Solas, we will continue to deliver the best for our clients and build long-term relationships with them.
