DUBAI & ABU DHABI
The United Arab Emirates celebrated its 45th National Day with much enthusiasm and fanfare throughout the seven Emirates. Right from the nation’s capital Abu Dhabi to Dubai to Sharjah, the country saw everything from magnificent fireworks displays to traditional dances and folklore that celebrated Emirati culture.
Here is a glimpse of a few ceremonies and activities that took place around the country —
In Dubai, producer of Olympic ceremonies, Balich Worldwide Shows, produced the Etihad Museum Opening Ceremony where the rulers of the seven Emirates assembled at the original venue where the founding rulers signed the Union Declaration back in 1971 to re-enact the event and reaffirm the union. They then attended the National Anthem performed by the police force and the army and raised the original union flag while jets flew overhead releasing the national colours in the sky.
In Abu Dhabi, the Crown Prince Court celebrated the UAE’s 45 years of nationhood with live performances that were also created and produced by Balich Worldwide Shows. The show took place in front of a select crowd of dignitaries and was a tribute to the many facets of the country and its history since unification.
The recurring theme of the show was a promise from the people to the nation – “The country is Amanah”, Amanah being one of the most meaningful words in the Arab world which can be translated as trust, reliability, loyalty and honesty.
Each act of the show highlighted the character and spirit of the Emirati people from the dreamy memory of the past to the advent of the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who changed the course of the nation forever. A statement by Balich Worldwide Shows about the event said: “The show represented the bonds of tradition and the prosperity yet to come. The soul of the show was the simple power of a promise that the people and the armed forces proclaimed loudly and with their heads held high.”
Al Qasba, Sharjah’s premier tourist, cultural, business, and entertainment landmark, had a lot to offer its visitors during the 45th UAE National Day celebrations. Tourists had the opportunity to see displays of traditional dancing from Emirati group Al Harbeya, who showcased a number of choreographed routines throughout the evening while similar performances with similar routines followed, put together by a local dance group Al Bahri. This then set the stage for a fireworks display that concluded the celebrations.
The performances at Al Qasba took place in an environment that had been specially lit up for the occasion. In place from November 30 until December 2, the illuminations also highlighted UAE Commemoration Day. The location was lit throughout the three-day period with red, green and white wash lights while the country’s flag colours were also projected onto Al Qasba’s landmark bridge.
Al Qasba offers an array of state-of-the-art facilities and tourist attractions, including restaurants, cafés, a Kids Fun Zone, the Al Qasba Musical Fountain, the Eye of the Emirates ferris wheel, the Maraya Art Centre and two libraries, among other facilities designed to meet the needs of visitors of all ages, cultures and communities.
