A fire engulfed Kuwait's opera house on Monday, just three months after the $770 million venue opened to the public.

The opera house, which is officially called Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre, was due to stage the Broadway musical "Cats" on Thursday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the fire was brought under control with no injuries on Monday.

Firefighters on a crane sprayed water onto the building, according to Reuters.

The fire is understood to have broken out as a result of construction work.
