Production crews at the Gulf Bike Expo have been forced to heighten security, due to a gang of youths who have allegedly been forcing entry into local events.

Witnesses have informed DPme.com about a number of incidents at local events where they claim to have seen the same group of young people storming into venues by rushing at security fencing en masse.

Orangisers of the Gulf Bike Expo, which runs from March 19 to 21 and features a headline performance from rock act Deep Purple, have enhanced security at the event to prevent such incidents in the future.

“We have had problems at shows here before and allegedly others have had the same problem with this group of kids storming the fence and then coming in and causing havoc,” revealed Tom Casey, production manager of the Gulf Bike Expo.

“Transguard are providing security for the event, and we have run an outside layer of fencing parallel to the inside layer, to help stop illegal entry occurring,” he explained.

“So we’ve been anticipating the worst,” he stated.

Casey commented that the issue of illegal entry was one commonly faced by local event managers, however it was yet to be openly discussed within the industry.

He said that heightened security measures had increased costs for the Gulf Bike Expo, but not dramatically.

“Fencing doesn’t make up a huge portion of the budget. It only cost us approximately $1400.”

“However, that money could still be put to better use.”
