Storage solutions vendor Western Digital, used its participation at Intersec 2018 to showcase its purpose-built products for video surveillance applications. The company also used the security and safety trade show to demonstrate its best in class technology and solutions for integrators and systems vendors' environments for capturing, preserving, transforming and accessing video.

The increasing demand for video content analytics (VCA) and video surveillance, and integration of surveillance with technologies such as drones and body-worn cameras have been identified as the key opportunities that could escalate the market growth in the coming years.

Khwaja Saifuddin, senior sales director, Western Digital India, Middle East and Africa, said the new evolving security and surveillance trends will see a rise in smart storage solutions in the region. Saifuddin said that's why Western Digital is empowering its customers to take control of their surveillance storage with WD's Purple hard drive family that offers high performance, efficiency and capacity, and has been tested in harsh surveillance environments.

He added, "we recognise the increasing value of surveillance across this region and we endeavour to help our customers attain the most return on investment from their surveillance investments with the right storage technologies to realise their goals. We have seen strong, continued interest in our WD Purple drives from leading public and private sector organisations, as the demands from surveillance systems evolve beyond monitoring to offering real time, quality video for analysis and insights."

Speaking with Digital Studio at Intersec 2018, Saifuddin said he believes their products are best in class in the market, as no other vendor is focused on developing products built for such demanding specifications and applications. He explained that WD's Purple 10TB surveillance hard drive family includes special technology called AllFrame that improves playback performance and works with ATA streaming to reduce errors and frame loss. The WD Purple hard drive is engineered for 24x7 reliable operation in HD security systems with up to five hard drives and up to 32 cameras.

Saifuddin added that the newly released  models within the G-Technology brand of storage solutions will be focused on meeting the demanding requirements of the media and entertainment industry in the Middle East. Studios, professional videographers and photographers, post-production houses, prosumers, and content creators can use these high-end drives are designed for every stage of the creative production workflow. Western Digital has introduced two new ultra-transportable solutions in its high-powered G-Technology G-SPEED Shuttle product family and will soon be available in the Middle East through resellers and distributors. One of the biggest pain points facing film makers is not having the ability to move the massive amounts of footage quickly and reliably to the next stage of the workflow – both physically and virtually. When working in-the-field, production teams need a fast solution that can handle demanding workflows of 4K and 8K content with the ability to collect that precious footage and quickly move the content from location to location. With the G-SPEED Shuttle, a professional can transfer one hour of 4K footage at 30 frames per second (fps) in just minutes at up to 1,000 MB/s.
