Al Jazeera Sport, which presently runs five channels, has announced an expanded offering with an additional seven sports channels – five in SD, two in HD – and two radio stations.

The group will also deploy a complete state-of-the-art digital SD/HD compression system from Tandberg to encyrpt the sports content that is transmitted through these channels.

The supply, installation, configuration, setup and training for the project has been contracted to Qatar-based systems integrator Salam Media Cast.

Sami El Shafai, executive director of Salam Media Cast commented that the systems integrator is working with Tandberg TV to “offer a cost-effective and user-friendly solution that is fully compliant with the client’s requirement”.

“This includes encoding television and radio channels to be multiplexed in one digital compression system to produce independent transport streams for different uplinks. The system has a flexible design and will be wired to add more TV and radio channels in the future,” El Shafai commented.

“This system will fulfill all the digital SD/HD compression system requirements that Al Jazeera Sport Channel has. We will also provide all the on-going support required for the channel,” El Shafai added.
