Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) will launch a High Definition TV channel in October, DPME.com can reveal.

The channel, which will be called Abu Dhabi HD, is expected to feature a mix of sports and entertainment content including some matches from the English Premier League — for which ADMC has the MENA rights for three seasons starting August 2010 — documentaries from National Geographic Abu Dhabi as well as dramas and movies.

Abu Dhabi HD will presently be available only on E-Vision, which announced the commercial roll out of HD services earlier this month. Viewers with compatible HD TV sets and set-top boxes will have access to the channel.

Earlier this month, E-Vision announced that its new HD set top boxes would be available for US $271. Competing telco Du, however, has announced a free upgrade to HD set top boxes for its customers.
