Dubai-based DVB-H services will happen although a launch date is yet to be decided, a senior official at the emirate's Samacom teleport has confirmed.

The teleport was part of a 2007 trial by a consortium lead by the UAE telco du, which also owns Samacom via its Broadcast Services division.

“DVB-H broadcasting will definitely happen and this teleport will play a major role,” said Ahmed Al Muhaideb, senior director, Samacom operations technology speaking exclusively to DPME.com.

“We provided the head-end for the trial and we will provide the master control room as well as the headend, which will support 12 channels. It is still not decided when it will launch,” added Al Muhaideb,

“We plan to be the major hub for the du DVB-H consortium and we already have access to all the channels through the work we do with them here.”

The trial in 2007 offered six channels from Dubai Media Inc. (DMI) and the Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) to a pool of 500 test subscribers.
