Does your company plan to invest in new technology in Q4?

Chris Dawson
Lighting Engineer – SLS
“To be honest, we aren’t planning to invest in any new kit right now, but once the events season picks up post-Ramadan we might look to upgrade our existing inventory.

“We will most likely focus on improving our lighting inventory when we do invest, because we already have a very good sound system. I’d like us to invest in new lighting fixtures and get them working in-synch with video.

“I would also like to see us elevate our production standards so they’re on-par with European or American standards, particularly in terms of video projection and lighting.

We mainly employ a GrandMA lighting desk but I think we could be utilising media servers more and controlling projections via the lighting desk.”

“Throughout the summer, we upgraded and expand our tech inventory considerably. We purchased a large number of new L-Acoustics products in the V-DOSC, DV-DOSC, Kiva and Kilo ranges, as well as some others.

“We also bought a new Digidesign Profile system which we’ll put to use in our live events business. It has 64 tracks of Pro Tools and it can accommodate up 128, which we will look to accumulate gradually.

“We recently relocated to new, larger warehouse premises in Dubai.

“We’d basically outgrown our previous facilities – we could barely get all of our kit through the door.”

Bharat Mharpalani

Business Development Manager – RNH EVENTS
“Officially, our budgets have been frozen, so we don’t plan to make any investments until the beginning of next year, but if we came across an amazing piece of technology we would still consider it.

“We want to ensure we always have the best kit available, but looking at current prices and taking into consideration the economic downturn, we’re better off putting any investment on hold for now.

“Long-term, we are keen to invest in new laser and visual effects technologies. We need to increase the size of our inventory in this area to ensure we maintain an edge over our competitors in the Gulf region.”

Matthew Tovgaard
General manager – Gearhouse Arabia
“We are really just expanding on the core technology we have now. We are acquring a number of new Varilites products, as well as new motors and rigging equipment.

“In terms of video, we are going to invest in additional Vista Spyders. We had a good year last year and bought a lot of Grass Valleys – we have twelve of them now – so that’s our video technology basically up to date.

“We are also acquiring additional wireless DMX equipment and fibre optics, which are in high demand at the moment.

“Fibre networking has simplified production, especially in regards to HD content. We’re increasingly using HD projection at live events.”
