Wedding channel to broadcast from RAK

Massaya TV invests in Playbox solutions to go on air in Ras Al Khaimah.
News, Delivery & Transmission

UAE-based Massaya TV, a new channel dedicated to broadcasting weddings and other events will go on air from Ras Al Khaimah Freezone this month.

The channel's broadcast operations in both Ras Al Khaimah and Egypt have been designed, supplied and integrated by Playbox Technology Ltd along with its Dubai-based distributor, Advanced Media Trading.

The US $2 million project included the installation of two Playbox severs for playout and redundancy; a GPI & Video Matrix/Router control with 400 hours of local storage each; a Playbox CG and Graphics Playout system, which works in both modes - with automated graphics appearance (under playout server control commands) or stand alone as well as racks, video gear and other kit.

"In the UAE, we have installed a ListBox to prepare the Playout list, a CaptureBox to capture/ingest material into the MPEG-2 format, a TitleBox to make the titles, logo and graphics," confirmed Pooyan Farnam from technical support at Advanced Media Trading. "In Egypt, we have put in place the complete set-up including two main modules which are Airbox (Playout) and Titlebox (Character generators) with redundancy."

The entire playlist can be controlled remotely from the company's headquarters in Ras Al Khaimah, confirmed Gaby Goummar, CEO of Massaya TV.

Goummar expects the channel to generate revenue from SMS as well as sponsorship of the events shown on Massaya. "We have 60 weddings waiting to be shown and about 200 in the pipeline for editing," commented Goummar, who is a TV director with offices in Syria, Egypt and the UAE.

"While the weddings will be shown for free, we hope to generate revenue from the congratulatory messages and interactive services we provide to our customers. Also, we hope to attract event managers in this region whether they are fashion shows or other like programmes," he added.
