As part of its first efforts to migrate to High Definition, Qatar TV has recently contracted Salam Media Cast to install a media server system from Avid at its facility. The deal includes the installation of an Avid Air Speed for ingest, its ISIS production server integrated to an Omneon Playout server and the vendor's Media Composer and NewsCutter non-linear editing systems.
Work on the US $5million project is expected to begin later this year and is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2008.
"Qatar Television has chosen to invest in a tapeless SDI & HD-SDI operation that has the advantage of using the high bandwidth of ISIS Technology," commented Sami El Shafai, executive director of Salam Media Cast. "The systems that we are putting in place with Avid is meant to support SDI & HD-SDI solutions and will make QTV HD-ready. With this project, the broadcaster will have a very advanced HD broadcasting facility."
Salam Media Cast, which has offices in Dubai and Qatar has also announced that it is opening an office in Oman.
