Telecoms technology firm Ericsson has declared its intention to step up its activities in a number of new fields including the broadcast, transport and healthcare sectors.
Speaking at the company’s Capital Markets Day in Stockholm, CEO Hans Vestburg said that whle there were still good growth opportunities in its traditional markets, Ericsson would rest on these alone.
“We are not satisfied with our position today and we see new markets to address,” said Vestburg. “The capabilities we have in place today enable us to address customers beyond traditional telecom operators such as cable and TV companies, governments, healthcare, transport and utilities. These are industries where there is a huge need for telecommunication services.”
Ericsson re-branded its Tandberg TV division earlier this year leading some to speculate that the company was set to increase its interest in the broadcast network infrastructure and encoding.
