WIcreations has designed and installed a custom roof used at a recent tennis match in Belgium between Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams.

The company - a niche provider of technical staging solutions with previous clients including Muse, U2 and BMW – were asked to design a roof 10 metres above the tennis ground with uninterrupted sight lines from the stands in the King Boudouin Stadium in Brussels. This obviously presented an immediate challenge of not being able to use towers or columns.

Their solution was to design a 1500 square metre canvas consisting of three parts, each weighing more the 500 kilograms. The canvas was fixed to the roof of the stadium with steel cables and held down with contra weights to withstand winds reaching eight on the Beaufort scale.

The shelter is multi-purpose, also able to be supported by a custom made ground support designed by WIcreations, that utilises a custom-made 1.4 metre aluminum truss. In this configuration, the shelter provides cover from the rain or sun for 4000 people.
