A team from Sony Corporation's headquarters in Japan was in Dubai last month to meet with Middle East clients and understand their requirements.
The team, which included Yoshinori Onoue, senior vice president of Sony Corporation and Toshihiko Ohnishi, senior general manager from Sony's B2B Solutions Business Group, confirmed its plans to invest further in the Middle East by providing more local support and training to its customers.
"There is rapid growth in this market for broadcast and content creation," commented Ohnishi. "We see much more growth here than anywhere else in the world so we have invested in providing training here recently. However, we hope to add to that by investing in more support services. We also hope to bring engineers from our factory to this region to speak to clients and understand where specifically they need enhancements."
The team also stated that Sony is now focusing more on High Definition as 70% of its sales comes from HD-related products. "In Japan, no one is investing in Standard Definition (SD) anymore. Investment in HD is 100% whether in news, production or transmission. In the US, 80% of what we sell is HD related and in Europe, Middle East and Africa, 50% of our sales are based on this format so we will be concentrating on this format," Ohnishi said.
