Queen Noor of Jordan recently pledged a US $100 million fund to back major film productions that help combat stereotypes. The announcement was made at a UN 'civilisation' forum in Madrid last month where initiatives to bridge cultural divides were discussed.

The fund will "support the production and distribution of films that entertain as well as enlighten - films that will enhance the connections that already exist between different societies, but are seldom noted on screen and in popular culture," Queen Noor told delegates.

The fund has an initial investment of US $10 million, and has established partnerships with Hollywood production and distribution companies, including Participant Productions, which was responsible for the film Syriana starring George Clooney.
