NetroMedia, a leading streaming media company, announced today that it is powering live streaming coverage of the daily Ramadan prayers this month to any internet-capable device, including tablet, set-top box, PC, Mac and mobile (iPhone, Android and BlackBerry). This series of 30 live events is one of the first times the Ramadan prayers have been available live and worldwide to mobile devices.

"The live streaming broadcast of the Ramadan prayers, especially to mobile devices, allows those unable to make it to the mosque to participate in the experience of hearing the prayers read live," said Taher Altayeb, NetroMedia's manager for the Middle East.

NetroMedia is a leading global Content Delivery Network (CDN) and adds the Ramadan live events to its extensive experience in streaming faith-based content. The company provides online broadcasters with video and audio streaming services, including pay-per-view solutions, live and on-demand streaming, mobile streaming and more.

IT City, a Saudi-based technology company, is sponsoring the streaming of the daily Ramadan prayers, which are known as Tarawih. The company selected NetroMedia as its streaming service provider because of NetroMedia's delivery strength in the Middle East, expert customer service, and, most importantly for this project, its ability to enable streaming to any device.

"It is very exciting for us to be the first that we know of to sponsor streaming of Tarawih to mobile!" said Majed Alhammadi, projects director at IT City. "Tarawih has been available on TV for decades now, and has started being streamed online in recent years. We're pleased to be leveraging NetroMedia's technology to help people now access the prayers from anywhere they happen to be, on their smartphones."
