Bahrain Radio & Television (BTV) has selected Masstech and its TOPAZ+XT version 7.5 solution to embark on a wide ranging project to digitise and archive 55 years of BTV content. Masstech specialises in deploying media asset management solutions.

BTV says the initiative will also provide enough capacity for broadcast content for decades to come.

In addition to embarking on the digitisation drive, Bahrain TV is also presently upgrading all six of its existing channels to High Definition (HD). Masstech’s TOPAZ archive will perform content handling to Harmonic’s Omneon playout servers, which are under the control of Pebble Beach automation. This is said to enable precise HD file based workflows.

The TOPAZ system’s inline high speed transcoding (HQS) technology is said to also ensure interoperability for bridging workflows between BTV’s content creation platforms, which include Avid Interplay, Apple FCP and Adobe Premier.
