Tiger Translate, Tiger’s global creative platform has signed Singaporean beatboxer, Dharni, and locally-based beatboxer Brett Trevethan, who will collaborate with the other musicians using their unique vocal styles. The Narcicyst, who will be compering the night’s line-up, and who film fans may also know for his role in City of Life, will also perform at the Media City launch event on January 24th. DUST’s Megadon Betamax and James Locksmith have signed on to play, while DJ/VJ Kung Foo Panda will be creating a special blend of music and visuals specifically for the night.
Dharni has gained recognition both at home and in Europe, having opened for Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Jin, and Lady Gaga. Dharni reigned as ‘Emperor of the Mic’ in 2011 and took part in the 1st International Beatbox Battle Convention in Berlin, Germany, as well as hosting master classes in Poland.
Dharni is also joined in the line-up by The Narcicyst and DUST’s Megadon Betamax and James Locksmith, who will bring their own musical interpretations to the diverse line-up, which includes former “dfa/LCD Soundsystem” alum, Pat Mahoney, ‘Bugz in the Attic’ founding member Paul ‘Seiji’ Dolby, Kuwaiti dj and music producer Zahed Sultan, along with Dubai-based singer/songwriter, Hamdan Al Abri, along with performances from Tiger Translate Auckland’s winner Tim Tapsell.
Shyam Allam, senior brand manager, Sirocco Middle East, stated: “Being able to offer Dharni as part of the line-up will bring an added dimension to the night, and provide something different for the crowd to enjoy. Additionally, by including The Narcicyst, Hamdan Al-Abri and DUST to the line-up we’re giving our guests a chance to witness the best of Dubai’s creative music scene; bringing true meaning to ‘East meets West’.”
