Dubai-based lighting specialist and systems integrator, Oasis Enterprises recently won the contract to refurbish a 1200 ms.sq studio in Abu Dhabi TV. The US $1.25 million project will see Studio 5, the channel's biggest studio, re-equipped with new lighting kit from De Sisti and ETC.
“We are replacing their existing luminaries and control system with De Sisti fixtures,” commented Basel Al Aref, general manager, Professional Services Division, Oasis Enterprises.
According to Aref, one new product in this project is the wireless DMX system. “The wireless DMX system will enable crew to connect between the console and the lighting. This is especially useful for covering outdoor events as you do not have to worry about cables. Moreover, it is very flexible and works over a length of 3 kms. Interestingly, it is not affected by other wireless products or frequencies so it is very reliable as well.”
While such a system is normally designed for outdoor applications, Aref says that it can also help people in a studio. “In a studio environment, if you suddenly need to change the sets, repulling the cables could be complicated and make it quite ugly as well. In such situations, this wireless system is quite handy.”
Abu Dhabi TV’s studio will be kitted out with studio lights and fill lights from De Sisti as well as LED colour changing lights from Pulsar for set decoration. The studio will also be fitted with two Congo control consoles. Each of these consoles can handle 2000 channels each.
“This studio has about 400 different kinds of lights including a mix of 1k, 2k and 5k Fresnel lights as well as soft and cool lights. Additionally, each LED needs at least three channels to accommodate the red, green and blue colours. These consoles have also been chosen to serve ADMC’s future expansion plans,” added Aref.
