Egyptian channel Dream TV is taking its first step towards High Definition migration with the installation of a turnkey HD solution from Sony Professional Solutions Middle East. The solution, which comprises Sony's high end HDC-1500 studio cameras, MVS-8000 switcher, HDW-M2000P, DVW-M2000P recorders, professional LCD monitors as well as products from Axon, Canford, Fujinon, Trilogy and Studer, will enable the channel to produce and edit content in HD.
"The Sony cameras will replace the existing SD setup we have at our studio, and a new control room will be built to install the rest of the equipment," commented Aly Mostafa (pic inset), director of Engineering at Dream Media Co. "Our objective is to address the emerging HD demand thoroughly, so we set the bar very high and bought high-end systems. We plan to begin production in HD by October although transmission will be in SD."
The systems installation will be carried out by Wahsh Engineering, Sony's representative in Egypt.
"The brief was to design the most up-to-date HD studio solution that would enable Dream TV to expand its reach globally with cutting edge HD content," commented managing director, Youssef Wahsh. "This is what we have tried to do with the combination we have designed for them."
The Sony installation is only the first phase of the channel's ambitious expansion plans. Dream Media Company is currently in the process of constructing a complex that will eventually house eight studios - four big and four small – to produce its local programmes.
The company, which presently has a general entertainment channel for adults and one for children, is also in the process of testing a sports channel while a fourth drama channel is in the pipeline.
