Kuwaiti channel goes on air with Wasp solution

Watan TV recently deployed a turnkey Wasp on-air graphics solution at its headquarters in Kuwait.

Watan TV recently deployed a turnkey Wasp on-air graphics solution at its headquarters in Kuwait. The US $500,000 project included the installation of Wasp's Drone designer system, its Hive Data manager and a Sting client, which controls Watan TV's playout server. The installation was undertaken by Wasp's local distributor Wecom Global.

“The system we have installed at Watan TV is a full-fledged configuration that will enable them to do the graphics for their news operation as well as other programmes,” commented Manoj Bhatia, managing director, Wecom Global.

Ihab El Baba, technical director for Watan TV added that several big broadcasters in Dubai were having trouble integrating a competing on-graphics solution within their network. “We heard that there were some issues with the competing product in the market. At the same time, our own research showed us that Wasp was a sophisticated, yet cost effective solution that could help us meet our needs. Additionally, Wecom’s local support is quite good. All these factors stood in favour of Wasp, and it is currently used for our production and on-air purposes,” he added.

The Wasp installation took two months and has been operational since early summer at Watan TV. The Kuwaiti broadcaster is also currently in the process of constructing another building at its premises inorder to accommodate its expansion plans, which include a newsroom system. Once the newsroom is ready, Wasp will be integrated with this solution as well.
