Executives from the Middle East’s TV and film production industry converged on Dubai last night for the tenth edition of the Digital Studio Middle East Awards ceremony.
The sector was recognised for excellence across 14 categories of awards covering the full spectrum of talent in the industry, from film production and post-production to technical innovation.
The winners collected their awards in front of more than 300 industry professionals during a gala dinner held at The Westin Mina Seyahi in Dubai.
The event kicked off with a speech from guest speaker, Mark Sanger, the Oscar winning editor of hit movie Gravity.
The evening then moved on to the revelation of the awards. The prestigious award for Best Production of the Year went to Veritas Films for Champ of the Camp, while Alagroobi Films earned the Highly Commended accolade in this category for its film, The Brain that Sings.
Local animation and post production house, Real Image, scooped two awards for Post-Production House of the Year and Best Animation of the Year.
The hotly contested Studio of the Year Award went to twofour54 Intaj Studios, with the judges recognising the company’s breadth of work, from local and regional television through to Bollywood and European productions.
The coveted award for Best Up & Coming Film Maker of the Year attracted some particularly strong nominations, but ultimately it was Bassam Alasad of Creative Media Solutions who earned the award for his haunting animation, Blackout.
Manufacturer of the Year award was particularly hard fought. The winner, BlackMagic, earned praise for pioneering its own 4K workflow and now has 13 shipping products that are Ultra HD ready, including capture and playback boards, production switchers, broadcast decks and monitoring solutions for audio and video.
The Highly Commended winner in this category was Grass Valley.
The Distributor/Reseller of the Year award went to United Broadcast & Media Solutions, while Elemental Technologies scooped the Technology Implementation of the Year award for its HEVC upgrade, and Avid earned the Highly Commended accolade.
MBC-Bollywood / Yara Media’s nomination bagged the Content Creation of the Year award.
