SES TechCom, a subsidiary of SES, and Es’hailSat - The Qatar Satellite Company have announced the signing of a comprehensive consultancy service agreement.

The agreement will provide Es’hailSat with full access to the technical experience and engineering know-how of SES, one of the market leaders in satellite communications.

The primary focus of the consultancy will be the development of Es’hailSat’s new teleport facility, which will provide satellite control and communications support (TT&C) for the Es’hail 2 satellite, and offer up-linking and reception facilities tailored for Es’hailSat’s business partners.

The teleport will feature comprehensive satellite ground station and platform services for clients and Es’hailSat and will be designed from the outset to allow for significant future growth.

“We are delighted to be working on this important project with SES TechCom, a world leading company with proven expertise in the design and delivery of satellite ground station facilities,” said Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO of Es’hailsat. “The establishment of our own teleport in Qatar is an integral part of the Es’hailSat program, giving us a secure and independent satellite infrastructure.”

“SES operates several of the largest and most successful teleports in the world and this with an unrivalled experience in the design and operation of such facilities,” said Gerhard Bethscheider, managing director of SES TechCom. “This initial contract has the potential to foster a long standing partnership between our two organisations.”

Es’hail 2 will be positioned at the 26° East hotspot position for TV broadcasting. It will significantly add to the company’s ability to provide high quality, premium DTH television content across the Middle East and North Africa.

The new satellite will feature Ku-band and Ka-band transponders to provide TV distribution with interference resilience and wide geographical coverage. Es’hail 2 is expected to be launched at the end of 2016.
