Al Jazeera America, which launched in August 2013, has announced that the channel will present more hours of live news programming, from more locations with more resources from Monday.
Each weekday starting at 6am ET until 12 noon ET, Al Jazeera America will present a live morning news block hosted by a rotating roster of the channel’s anchors and reporters.
The updated morning news brings viewers an additional two hours of content from Al Jazeera America’s headquarters in New York City, and will be interwoven with live news broadcasts from Al Jazeera studios in Doha and London, the network’s 82 bureau locations and field reporters around the world.
Additionally, Al Jazeera America will extend its midday news coverage an additional hour.
"This increased investment in daytime news will give viewers up-to-date and in-depth coverage of domestic and global events from Al Jazeera’s experienced team of journalists," a statement said.
Al Jazeera America’s news segments will feature enterprise stories and investigative pieces spotlighting science, technology, health, culture, business, environmental issues and more.
Additionally, the live weekday news blocks will preview stories set to air later in the day from Al Jazeera America’s primetime shows including America Tonight, Real Money with Al Velshi, Fault Lines, TechKnow and Talk to Al Jazeera.
As part of the programming update, Al Jazeera America said it will soon be rolling out updated programming in the evening which "reflects the channel’s values of in-depth, fact-based journalism through hard-hitting examinations of today’s pressing, important and occasionally provocative issues".
Headquartered in New York City with bureaus in 12 cities across the United States, Al Jazeera America is available in more than 64 million homes in the US on Comcast, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV Channel 347, Dish Network Channel 216, Verizon FiOS Channel 614 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 1219.
