The twelfth edition of the Arab Advisors Convergence Summit, a conference dedicated to telecoms and broadcast, opened at the Four Seasons hotel in Amman, Jordan today.
The event, which is being held under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society, will see delegates discuss some of the most pressing issues in the industry.
Today’s main broadcast panel will focus on the current state and prospects for VOD and S-VOD in the region and convergence from the broadcasters and content providers’ perspective. It will feature speakers including Mohammad Mourad, managing director, Google; Sanjay Raina, general manager, Fox Middle East, and Fares Sayegh, general manager, Roya TV. The panel will be moderated by Santino Saguto, partner, Deloitte.
The day’s first panel discussion focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and gave attendees an idea of how operators and other businesses can gain their share of the IoT pie and generate profits from it. The panel was chaired by Jawad Abbassi, founder and general manager, Arab Advisors Group, and consisted of speakers included Jean Francois Thomas, CEO, Orange; Omar Al-Omoush, director of marketing, Umniah, and Ziad Matar, senior director, business development, Qualcomm.
The panel was followed with an address by HE Ms. Majd Shweikeh, Minister of ICT Jordan.
Other panels at the two-day event will focus on, HD-TV, bid data opportunities in the Middle East, and mobile payments.
