UBMS, a Dubai-based distributor of broadcast technology, held a training session for Sony PXW-FS7 and PXW-X500 in Arabic earlier this month.
The workshop, which was called Sony Technology and Beyond, was held on June 14 and looked at a range of topics related to the cameras such as 4K, 2K, sensor sizes, recording formats and bit rates.
Peter Kyriakos, head of marketing at UBMS, explained that the course was in Arabic to cater to a gap in the market for such training sessions. “There have been requests for this, as not everyone is comfortable doing these types of workshops in English.”
The session, which was free, was attended by 23 students and was led by Sony expert Marwan Farage.
“The session went down very well with the students,” Kyriakos said. He added that a number of the students already owned a PXW-FS7 and learned valuable new information and tips on how to get the most out of their camera. For those students who did not yet own either of the cameras, the session offered an ideal chance to learn more about them and also test them out during practical sessions.
“It was a free of charge workshop and one of the first times this type of workshop has taken place in the Middle East. We cater to the various requirements that our customers have and to the Arabic speaking demographic. Our workshops are usually in English, but we understand that some people prefer to learn in Arabic and we are keen to cater for them."
