Sony acquires archiving specialist Memnon

Sony Europe Ltd has acquired Memnon Archiving Services SA, a Belgium-based company that specialises in digitisation and digital archive preservation.

Memnon’s archiving services and technologies coupled with Sony’s workflow and media solutions for broadcast will create new market opportunities for advanced media asset management and digitisation solutions for media companies and broadcasters around the world.

Katsunori Yamanouchi, vice president, Sony Professional, Sony Europe, said: “Memnon have industry leading experience in handling and managing precious archives, experience which is recognised by a wide range of highly regarded institutions around the world. Together with Memnon, Sony will be able to support customers in the challenge to preserve hundreds of millions of hours of AV archive content and invaluable assets, in various formats.

Sony’s acquisition of Memnon Archiving Services SA was effective as of July 1st and include all assets, including intellectual properties rights, technology and software solutions engineering capabilities. Memnon will become a part of Sony Professional, Sony Europe Ltd.
