What are your company’s plans for IBC2015?
At IBC, we will provide a European debut for our OB-BOX concept, a new and radically different approach to the outside broadcast challenge, which we first introduced earlier this year and is generating a lot of interest amongst broadcasters in many regions, especially EMEA and APAC.
Also, we will be showcasing the latest advances in Hitachi’s broadcast system camera range including models designed for remote operation up to the latest advances in 4K and UHD camera technology.
Will you be launching any new products/services at IBC?
At IBC, we will stage a European debut of our new OB-BOX concept, which offers entirely new levels of outside broadcast (OB) operational flexibility, cost-efficiency and technical performance right up to ultra-HDTV capabilities. In essence, OB-BOX is a fully featured modular OB facility which is delivered to the customer and then mounted onto a vehicle’s chassis using a proprietary fixing kit. This approach significantly reduces the manufacture and delivery time in any market worldwide since it removes the need to source and ship an appropriate vehicle for each customer.
The OB-BOX comes in three different configurations which support four, eight and 12 production cameras. The option of a booth side extension adds further flexibility to unit sizing. In addition, an ability to connect two OB-BOX units in a cascade configuration adds more versatility and facilitates many different sizes of OB unit up to 20 camera mobile facilities.
Each OB-BOX is specified, designed and manufactured at our Istanbul-based facility to meet the customer’s exact OB needs. The unit provides all of the video, audio, transmission and infrastructure capabilities needed to create a stand-alone outside broadcast facility. The technical specification of the unit is such that it will support any broadcast signal from serial digital to HD and even 4K production. Alongside satellite and fiber connectivity, the units integrate powerful Ethernet connectivity, which provides the production team with internet facilities on site. At the same time, OB-BOX features sophisticated Cloud capabilities, which enable the users to send 4K content back to the broadcaster’s production centre quickly and easily.
Adding further value to our IBC technology showcase, we will exhibit a number of different broadcast camera systems that can be deployed with OB-BOX. These camera systems include the market leading SK-UHD4000 4K Ultra-HDTV camera, SK-HD1500 Super Slow Motion camera, new version Wireless camera systems together with the company’s latest 3 MOS sensor series cameras - the SK-HD1300 and Z-HD6000 - as well as the DK-H100 POV Box camera with robotic pan-tilt system.
What do you hope to achieve by exhibiting at the show?
IBC is one of the leading global tradeshows serving the international broadcast industry and attracts high calibre attendees from every geographic region. This year’s event provides us with a superb opportunity to showcase Hitachi’s market leading capabilities right from studio production to large-scale OB projects. We will take the opportunity to demonstrate how we can provide a unique level of support to customers, helping them to exploit new revenue generating opportunities at the same time as minimising risk within their critical broadcast operations.
How big will your presence be?
We will have a major stand in Hall 11 (stand number 11.D39) where we will demonstrate a wide range of camera systems together with OB-Box, seen together for the first time in Europe.
What are your views of the Middle East market?
The Middle East market is very important to Hitachi Kokusai. The region has a broad range of broadcasters and facilities which have specific needs thanks to the unique climatic, geographic and economic character of the region. Hitachi Kokusai continues to invest in developing this important regional market.
What recent news is there from your company in the Middle East?
The best indication we can give of Hitachi Kokusai’s commitment to the Middle East was our recent strategic decision to establish a major manufacture, service, sales and marketing centre in Istanbul, Turkey. At our 5,000 square metre production facility in Free-Zone/Tuzla-Istanbul we manufacture some of the broadcast market’s most cost-effective high-end products, systems and solutions, serving customers in the regional broadcast industry and government institutions.
We design, develop and manufacture mobile antenna systems, controllers and SATCOM components, which are integrated into customised DSNG (digital satellite news gathering) vehicles, special purpose vehicles or outside broadcasting trucks that we design and manufacture within our facilities.
