Hollywood legend Jackie Chan has become the latest A-lister to sign up to shoot a new movie in Dubai.

The star will feature alongside Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif in 'Kung Fu Yoga', segments of which will be filmed in the emirate next month.

Most of the picture, which was slated to star Aamir Khan, will take place in India, and is part of a three-movie agreement between the country's government and their counterparts in China.

A scheduling conflict has prevented Khan joining the cast, who will be directed by Chan's long-standing friend Stanley Tong. The pair have worked together on numerous projects for the past 20 years.

"It is not possible for me to do it," Khan explained in May. "I would have loved to do it. They are shooting in September-October and at that time I will be busy with Dangal. I can’t start any film in August-September."

The announcement is another huge boost for the burgeoning film industry in the region following a series of similar high-profile projects.

In the past month it has been confirmed Brad Pitt will be in Abu Dhabi in October to film scenes from his Netflix-funded War Machine project, while the latest Star Trek film has already held open casting sessions ahead of their stint in the Middle East later this year.

It all comes as the world gears up for the return of Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which is released worldwide in December, with Abu Dhabi's Empty Quarter playing a central role.
