Dubai World Trade Centre has confirmed that the extension of Zabeel Halls is on track for completion and full operation by the first quarter of 2016.
Amer Alfarsi, projects director for real estate at Dubai World Trade Centre, told Construction Week the 1.56ha (167,900sq ft) extension will be known as Zabeel Halls 4, 5, and 6.
"Construction is well underway where the extension is being added on to the venue’s current indoor complex space, which will take the available multipurpose indoor event and exhibition capacity to over 122,000sqm," Alfarsi said.
"This includes three halls, which will be known as Zabeel Halls 4, 5, and 6, which are 72m x 72m and 10m high, which can be opened up to one long 216m x 72m hall. One of the halls is sub-dividable into six separate venues for smaller events."
According to Alfarsi, the new halls are linked to the existing Zabeel Halls 1, 2 and 3 through specifically designed link corridors that can be fully retracted to allow for full vehicular movements as well as be fully deployed to create additional exhibition space as a covered, air-conditioned walkway between both buildings.
Other features at the halls will include in-hall cafes and F&B offerings, office facilities, a new marshalling yard for event set-up and parking facilities with landscaping.
"With the continued increase in demand for new shows, and year-on-year scale up of strategic events within the Dubai World Trade Centre calendar, the planned custom-built and flexible event space is expected to cater to the next few years of portfolio growth that will in turn support increases in Dubai’s business tourism traffic," Alfarsi added.
