beIN Media Group, the Qatar-based regional pay TV network, has inked a five-year first run output deal with independent film distributor Front Row Filmed Entertainment as it expands its plaform.

The company said the agreement marks the beginning of a new era to bring a "much needed shake-up in the regional pay TV market". Details of the deal were not disclosed.

The deal comes after beIN announced earlier this month it is to expand its sports-dominated platform to include movies and entertainment channels.

The 24 new channels, all available in HD and with parental controls, will include Hollywood films, documentaries, drama and comedy series, and children’s content, and have been launched in response to customer feedback.

Commenting on this deal, Yousef Al-Obaidly, deputy CEO of beIN said: “As we launch our entertainment portfolio, it is imperative that we align with independent content aggregators. We feel that Front Row is a great fit for beIN. Their enthusiasm, love and knowledge of the film industry is remarkable. We are confident that this partnership will be a major asset to the network’s expansion.”

Gianluca Chakra, managing partner of Front Row, added: “This venture is probably one of the biggest deals in Front Row’s history. This output deal is only the beginning of a long term relationship based on mutual trust and benefit which will spawn many more ventures that are already being planned with beIN."

Films like the hit It Follows, Oliver Stone’s Snowden, Blood Father, Zeroville, the Cannes Film Festival Winner Deephan, Freeheld, Tale of Tales, Maniac Cop, Martyrs, Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire and High Rise as well as Dragonball Z: Resurrection “F”, Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa and many more will premiere exclusively on beIN’s movie channels, the company said.

Front Row Filmed Entertainment is an independent film distribution company who acquires all rights for distribution in the Middle East and North Africa and is based in Dubai, with offices in Kuwait and Lebanon.
