While we're a long way from blizzards such as those witnessed in other parts of the world this week, the winter months in the UAE still offer up a blend of winds, rain, sandstorms, sunshine, and fog so thick it creates a ‘cloud city’.
Unsurprisingly, these conditions can be somewhat challenging for event organisers when planning an outdoor experience for their clients. The planning must not only take into account a move of venue - so attendees can seek shelter in extreme conditions - but the event technology equipment being used, particularly lighting fixtures housed on rigging outside the covered area.
This challenge was one faced by Neumann&Müller Event Technology for the 44th National Day Celebrations back in December, set against the backdrop of the Dubai skyline, on the shore of the Dubai Design District Lake. Not only did the event face the risk of adverse weather conditions, but the audience was seated on a 100m wide grandstand on the shoreline and the whole 45 minute show was performed in and on the water. This meant that all the lighting fixtures had to also be protected from salt spray ingress.
To overcome any potential problems and continue its aim to develop and use new, innovative ways to support its clients, N&M specified and delivered Airdomes for the event. These transparent, self-inflating domes are designed to cover lighting fixtures to protect from weather conditions, show location and performance activities, providing the ideal solution for any outdoor event.
