Peak viewership time for Neflix in the Middle East ranges between 2am to 5am during Ramadan, according to a survey by YouGov commissioned by the online streaming service.

This is attributed to viewers going to sleep following dawn prayers, with 35% going to bed at 5am. Saudis go to sleep the latest out of all three countries polled, with 50% hitting the pillow on average after 5am. Conversely, UAE residents seek more beauty sleep, with 19% going to bed at 11pm.

The survey - carried out between April 2017 and 2018 across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt with respondents aged 18 and above - shows 78% Middle East residents feel they more time during the Holy Month, with 51% agreeing they gain an additional 2 to 3 hours daily.

heir bonus time is being used mostly to pray (65%), spend time with family (56%), get some rest (39%) and watch TV shows or movies (35%), surpassing other activities such as reading (31%), other forms of ‘me time’ (24%) or socialising (19%).

It is worth noting around 53% of respondents said they watch between 2 to 3 hours of TV with friends and family each day during Ramadan. Top genres selected are comedy, family/drama and history respectively. Around 48% of respondents prefer solo viewing for the same period. Comedy takes the top spot, though action and thrillers are among the most popular choices for Saudis in particular.

Netflix will release a variety of new content during Ramadan, including The Rain, Forgive us our Debts, Sarah’s Notebook, The 100 and The Walk.
