LEGAL action could be taken against hundreds of illegal cable television operators in Bahrain, Gulf Daily News reported.
Asian premium entertainment broadcaster Pehla reportedly wants to prosecute people who buy its services and distribute them on the black market as part of a Gulf-wide crackdown.
The illegal operators have been offering cable connections to thousands of subscribers across the country for years, said Pehla’s Bahrain distributor Satlink general manager Om Ramchandani.
The decision comes after Pehla pulled the plug on thousands of users of the illegal Dreambox last year resulting in its premium Asian entertainment channels being cut off. It happened after the company switched to new Viaccess technology from the older Irdeto platform.
Mr Ramchandani said Dreambox operators had since not been able to access its signals and that the number of legal subscribers had increased.
