Tom Hanks completes filming in Egypt

Tom Hanks has completed shooting scenes for his new film, A Hologram for the King, in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Hurghada, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Egypt’s state news agency reported last week that Hanks was shooting portions of the film, which is based on a novel by Dave Eggers, in diving areas off the coast.

The film, which is being directed by Tom Tykwer, is about an American salesman who travels to Saudi Arabia to sign a business contract with a wealthy monarch.

Kamal Abdel Aziz, president of the Egypt’s National Film Center told The Hollywood Reporter that the shoot had used underwater cameras in the Red Sea.

He added, as part of a drive to attract international productions, Egypt’s National Film Centre pushed through the necessary permission documents for A Hologram for the King in 72 hours.
The cast also includes Sarita Choudhury, Omar Elba, Tracey Fairaway, David Menkin and Tom Skerritt.
