The growth of Saudi Arabia’s budding film industry continues to gather pace with another major development. On April 30, Nebras Films announced the official launch of the kingdom’s first full-service production studio. The 42,000 square-foot production facility based in Riyadh hopes to become a home to major motion pictures, TV features, documentaries and advertising productions. Touted as the only full service movie production studio in Saudi Arabia, the studio is equipped with state of the art equipment.

The executive team behind Nebras Films is currently in Cannes to discuss the new facilities with the international filmmaking community, and promote the benefits of shooting in Saudi Arabia. Nebras Films has equipped the studio with high end equipment to cover the full gamut of content creation, such as Arri cameras, Master Prime, anamorphic lenses, lighting and grips, vehicles, aerial drones, 3D scanners and surveying equipment, as well as camera stabilizers and cranes. In addition they provide, set design, post production, audio, casting, costumes and vehicles for end-to-end production needs.

The studio venture is backed by Alnafees Holding Company, parent company behing other Saudi projects including construction company Diyar Najd; interior design specialists Nafees World, and Madaen, specializing in real estate development. The studio is headed by Chairman Abdullah Al Nafisah, and a leadership team of General Manager Niko Ruokosuo an executive with wide experience in Saudi Arabia, along with Head of Production Matty Beckerman, a writer, producer and director who made his Hollywood directorial debut with sci-fi thriller 'Alien Abduction'.

Ruokosuo, who has founded multiple startups, and Beckerman will meet with international production houses and filmmakers as part of the Saudi Arabia pavilion during Cannes, to discuss the merits of filming at the Riyadh-based studio. Production recently wrapped on the facility’s first international co-production, 'Born A King', produced by Andres Gomez, directed by Agustí Villaronga and starring Ed Skrein of Deadpool fame.
