'Gold' is first Bollywood film to release in Saudi Arabia

The Akshay Kumar starrer becomes the first Bollywood film to release in the Kingdom, after the decades-old ban on cinemas was lifted.

Hindi movie 'Gold' released worldwide on August 15 and in a first for Bollywood, the film has also released in Saudi Arabia. The Akshay Kumar starrer thus becomes the first Bollywood film to release in the Kingdom, after the decades-old ban on cinemas was lifted, allowing the first cinemas to open in Saudi Arabia this year.

'Gold', is about India’s first Olympic gold medal after attaining independence, won by the national hockey team in the 1948 London Olympics. Kumar essays the role of hockey team manager, Tapan Das in the film directed by Reema Kagti which also stars Mouni Roy. 

Akshay Kumar celebrated the release in a tweet: "The story of India's first Gold medal victory for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Happy to share, 'Gold' is the first ever Bollywood movie to release in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, in cinemas from today!" 

Hollywood blockbuster Black Panther was the first film to release in Saudi Arabia while Rajinikanth’s Tamil movie Kaala was the first release from Indian cinema.
