Samsung unveils QLED 8K TV in UAE

Samsung Gulf Electronics today launched the first QLED 8K television in the UAE during a launch event in Dubai. First unveiled at CES 2019, the introduction of QLED 8K is Samsung’s new ultra-premium TV segment offering, with the most advanced picture quality in its portfolio.

The QLED 8K TVs are available in 98-inch 82-inch and 75-inch and  68-inch screen sizes, to meet the UAE’s demand for larger screen formats. With 4K entering the mainstream, TV manufacturers and media companies are keen to create a new category of advanced televisions to drive sales within the premium segment.

“We continue to offer consumers an unforgettable TV experience with new product launches, which we were able to demonstrate in an interactive and exciting way at today’s event. With Real 8K Resolution features embedded with Samsung’s proprietary 8K AI Upscaling technology, Samsung is pushing the boundaries of TV technology for consumers around the world,” said Mustafa Sadick, Head of Visual Display Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “We are excited to bring our first QLED 8K TV lineup to the UAE with a stunning 8K resolution for a new level of immersion.”

Sadick added that the issue of limited native 8K content will not be a problem for TV buyers because of the AI driven upscaling ability in the QLED 8K TVs. Samsung QLED 8K comes with AI Upscaling that uses the power of machine learning to analyze and upscale content to 8K resolution, to help optimize the viewing experience.

At the launch event, an expert panel of industry leaders shared insights on the advent of higher resolutions and large screen TVs as the demand for premium immersive content consumption skyrockets.

Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky's Retail LLC commented on how modern consumer expectations are driving sales of large screen high quality devices to consumer media and entertainment: “Samsung’s range of larger than life 75"+ class TVs take on-screen entertainment up a level. Through our retail partnership with Samsung, we are paving the way for a smarter and a truly enjoyable TV viewing experience for our customers. Large-screen TVs that are measuring 65 inches or wider, are becoming more and more common, and we expect 8K to boost sales as well as drive a bright future for high-definition technology.”

Maaz Sheikh, Co-Founder and CEO of STARZPLAY, commented on how the SVOD era has coincided with the rise of large-screen entertainment devices. Sheikh noted that all content on the Starz Play platform is available in 4K and discussed how the shift to higher resolutions is enabled by an entire ecosystem of hardware, content, and bandwidth availability along with consumer acceptance. Starz Play is available along with other OTT services as part of Samsung's SmartPack for Samsung Smart TV owners.

Ali F. Mostafa, Emirati Film Director, said from a filmmakers perspective, the advent of hi-res formats is challenging content creators to "up their game" as every detail of a film can be noticed by audiences. Mostafa added that the home viewing experience is getting better and better rivalling the cinematic experience. “As a filmmaker, one of the most important features of the QLED 8K TV is that with 8K resolution you can enjoy even every single detail of your favourite movie. This means that the viewers can truly immerse themselves in a cinematic experience where their movies, shows, sports, and games appear larger than life.”

Himanshu Vashishtha, CEO of Sixth Factor Consultancy commented that a new generation of millenial users are pushing the limits of entertainment technology: “There is a huge demand right now for big televisions: pricing and features are both attractive and the technology is out of this world. Consumers today look for TVs that offer more ways to search for content and more compatibility with connected devices than ever before. 8K TVs are pushing the boundaries of TV technology for consumers around the world, taking them to picture quality places they have never been before.”

To achieve 8K resolution, the Samsung 8K QLED produces four times more pixels than a 4K UHD TV and 16 times more pixels than a full HD TV.

The Samsung QLED 8K integrates HDR10+ and Ultra Bright III to manage the TV’s contrast and color. Brightness levels are optimized to help ensure content is displayed beautifully and consistently in almost any lighting conditions. HDR10+ also minimizes the impact of glare and reflection in many of the UAE’s sun-filled rooms.

Despite the limited native 8K content currently available, the Quantum Processor 8K can recognize and upscale all content whether through a streaming service, set-top box, HDMI, USB or even mobile mirroring to appear in 8K resolution. In addition, the QLED 8K range features Direct Full Array Elite for enhanced contrast and precise backlighting control.

As Samsung’s flagship TV, the QLED 8K will also include features available across the QLED range that enable consumers to get the most from their TV.

These include One Invisible Connection, an all-in-one clear cable that frees TV space from unsightly cords. Ambient Mode to integrate the TV screen to suit a rooms interior décor and design and display art or photos, or time and weather. Smart TV enhancements, Samsung TV’s work with Smart Things or Bixby, offering choice to control the connected home.

Samsung’s QLED 8K TVs are available across all major retail stores and Samsung brand stores in the UAE.
